If the glucose concentration rises above normal, the beta cells of the islets of Langerhans detect this increase and respond by secreting insulin into the blood
Insulin:
stimulates the absorption of glucose from the blood into the body cells
stimulates the conversion of glucose to glycogen in the liver and muscles
Glucose is removed from the blood which causes the glucose concentration to decrease
The decrease in the glucose concentration is detected by the beta cells, which in turn, inhibit the secretion of insulin
