  • BPS Guidlines include:

    • Maximising benefit, minimising harm
  • Informed Consent

    Not conformed until participants are aware of the aims and concequences of the study
  • Right to Withdraw
    Participants told they can withdraw themselves and their data at any point during the study with no adverse concequences
  • Protection from Harm
    Designing study to prevent well-being, physical health, personal values and dignity from being harmed
  • Confidentiality
    Personal data kept securely and not shared
  • Debriefing
    Reveals any info withheld from the participant, whilst checking for harm and offer support
  • Prior General Consent
    Agree to a long list of potential features, not knowing what aspects will appear
  • Retroactive Consent
    Consent after taking part in the study, data destroyed if not given
  • Presumptive Consent
    Ask similar group of people if they would consent, assuming sample would also consent
  • Cost-Benefit Analysis
    Concluding if the study is worth the deception with its effects on society
    • Studied by an ethics committee
    • Hard to tell if there will be benefit to society until published
