Chemical Reaction

Cards (16)

  • Chemical Reactions - occur chemical bonds between when atoms are formed or broken.
  • reactants - The substances that go into a chemical reaction
  • products - the substances that are produced at the end of the reaction
  • Indicators:
    • Color Change
    • Temperature Change
    • Production of Light
    • Volume Change
    • Change in Smell or Taste
    • Gas bubbles appear
    • Formation of a precipitate
  • CHEMICAL REACTION - a process that rearrangement of the molecular or ionic structure of a substance, as opposed to a change in physical form or a nuclear reaction.
  • CHEMICAL EQUATION - Chemical equations make use of symbols to represent factors such as the direction of the reaction and the physical states of the reacting entities.
  • A chemical reaction can be represented using a chemical equation.
  • Reactants - are substances initially present in a chemical reaction that are consumed during the reaction to make products.
  • Products - a product is a substance that is formed as the result of a chemical reaction.
  • There are six categories in which you can classify chemical reactions:
    1. Synthesis/Combination Reaction
    2. Decomposition
    3. Combustion
    4. Single replacement
    5. Double replacement
    6. Acid-base
  • SYNTHESIS REACTION - two or more substances combine to form a new single substance.
  • DECOMPOSITION - A single reactant breaks down to form 2 or more products.
  • COMBUSTION - Oxygen gas reacts with another substance, which releases energy in the form of light and heat.
  • SINGLE REPLACEMENT REACTION - One element replaces a similar element in a compound
  • ACID-BASE - It is a reaction wherein acids and bases react with each other to form ionic salt and water.
  • DOUBLE REPLACEMENT REACTION - two reactants exchange ions, forming a new compound
