  • Forward lean sitting:
    • Rest your feet flat on the floor
    • Lean your chest forward slightly
    • Rest your elbows on your knees
    • Relax your neck and shoulder muscles
  • Supported forward lean sitting:
    • Rest your feet flat on the floor
    • Lean your chest forward slightly
    • Rest your arms on a table
    • Rest your head on your forearms or on some pillows
  • Relaxed standing (used when out, not usually at home):
    • Stand with your feet shoulder width apart
    • Lean your hips against a wall
    • Rest your hands on your thighs
    • Relax your shoulders, leaning forward slightly and dangling your arms in front of you
  • Forward lean standing:
    • Rest your elbows or hands on a piece of furniture or window sill, just below shoulder height
    • Useful if patient is mobilising and no seat to rest on
  • High side lying:
    • For patients who would benefit from side lying but too breathless to lie flat
    • Fully support head and neck with pillows
    • Pillow between knees
    • Head of bed is raised
    • Top arm supported on pillows
