    Effective factory layout is the goal and it will promote productivity safety, and quality of goods/services
  • Criteria for factory layout
    • Flexibility - can be modified easily if need be (can be hard with larger machines)
    • Coordination - allows for an easy flow, one step to the net
    • Distance - minimised distance to avoid accidents and/or wastage
    • Handling - minimum handling to avoid damaging material or product
    • Best use of space - optimum utilisation of space (making use of vertical space)
    • Visibility - clearly visible ti avoid accidents and account for all goods
    • Limit discomfort - avoid situations of poor lighting, excessive heat, etc
    • Safety - ensure all risks are noted and precautions are in place

    Employee POV
    • less physical movement of workers
    • less tired & more productive
    • higher productivity -> potential benefit of higher pay
    • Optimum utilisation of space & logical flow = fewer accidents
    Business POV
    • Production process runs smoothly
    • more goods produce higher turn over
    • Less waste = lower production cost = higher profit
    • Implement production system is easier
    • General safety is promoted
