Cards (6)

  • When we exercise what happens to respiration and why?
Cellular respiration increases as muscle activity (contraction and relaxing of muscles)requires energy
  • How is energy produced for exercise in muscles
Muscles breakdown glycogen into glucose in order for respiration which produces energy
  • What happens to breathing rate during exercise and why?
The breathing rate and vol. per breath increases in order to ensure more oxygen gets to your muscles and carbon dioxide is removed faster.
  • What affect does heart rate have on exercise and why ?
Heart rate increases so that it can pump more blood around the body quickly which provides oxygen and glucose for respiration. It also helps remove carbon dioxide
  • How can you calculate breathing rate?
Count rise and fall of chest in a given amount of time
  • How can you measure heart rate?
Count the pulse in your artery on your wrist or on your neck. This is the blood flowing through the artery causing it to expand.
