  • The Czechoslovakia Crisis - Context 

    Hitler demanded that the Czech government give independence to the Sudetenland, an area of Czechoslovakia where 3.5 million Germans lived. It was rich in natural resources and contained Czechoslovakia's defences against a possible German attack.
  • Munich Agreement
    30 September 1938 - Germany, Britain, Italy and France held a conference to formally agree a deal. Czechoslovakia was not invited. The Munich Agreement agreed:
    • to make the Sudetenland part of Germany
    • to guarantee the independence of the rest of Czechoslovakia
    • for both Britain and Germany promised not to go to war.
