• Analysis 1. In his typical optimistic form, Gatsby was prepared to stay up all night if that's what it would take to confirm that Daisy was safe.

  This is striking because her "careless" nature was shown when she didn't even have the decency to give him a sign that she still loved him and wanted to be with him.

  Daisy had no intention of returning to Gatsby, and her turning out the light symbolises his return to loneliness . Gatsby thinks he can overcome the barrier between the two classes, when in reality, he will never be accepted.
