  • Benedict Test for sugars
    1.) Add Benedict solution to the food sample of test tube
    2.) Heat up in water bath for sugars to dissolve
    3.) If there's colour change then glucose is present
    4.) If a recurring sugar is present then a brick red participate will be formed. If not, solution will remain blue
  • Tests for Proteins
    1.) Add Bieurets reagent to food sample in test tube
    2.) Shake solution to mix and wait for a few mins
    3.) If proteins are present, the solution will turn from blue to purple
  • Emuslsion Test for Lipids
    1.) Add a few cm^3 of ethanol to food sample
    2.) Pour this mixture to test tube of equal volumes of distilled water
    3.) If lipids are present, a white emulsion will form on the surface of the mixture
  • Iodine Test for Starch
    1.) Pour some of the food sample to test tube
    2.) Add a few drops of iodine solution to food sample using a pipette
    3.) If starch is present then the solution will turn from brown to blue-black
