  • Social norms: standards of acceptable behaviour are set by a social group (1)
  • Anything that deviates from acceptable behaviour is considered abnormal as the behaviour is unexpected by the other group members or causes offence to society (1)
  • For example, someone with OCD might bring their own cutlery to a restaurant due to a fear of cross contamination - this is an unexpected way of behaving in society so would be seen as abnormal (1)
