  • Jahoda says there are six criteria that define mental healthiness (1)
  • Meeting one or more of these criteria would suggest an abnormality, the more criteria they meet, the more abnormal the person would be deemed (1)
  • For example, a person is deemed abnormal if:
    • They have negative self attitudes - have low self esteem
    • Have problems with self-actualisation - individual feels they are unable to reach their full potential
    • Unable to resist stress - inability to cope with stress
    • Lack of autonomy - lack of being independent
    • Inaccurate perception of reality - inaccurate perception of the world
    • Poor environmental mastery - inability to love/form relationships (1)
