Human Eye

• Function:

  • detect light
  • specific wave lengths at localized regions will pass information to nervous system
  • eyes capture light and brain is the one who sees
• Cornea: transparent cover
• iris: regulates light entering colored part of eye
• pupil: hole that enter
• lens: divides eyes into two caviters
• retinas: inner most layer
• Process:

  light strikes retina -> photoreceptors -> bipolar cells -> optic nerves -> CNS
• Sensory Reception and Processing:

  • cones = colors; rods = black and whites
  • In rods: photon activates rhodopsin -> signal transduction path closes Na+ channels -> hyperpolarization
