    • Components of a mixture retain their own properties
    • Mixtures can be separated by physical processes such as filtration, crystallisation and distillation
    • Crystallisation:
      • Mixture is gently warmed
      • Water evaporates leaving crystals of pure salt
    • Fractional distillation:
      • used to separate mixtures where components have different boiling points
    • Chromatography is used to separate different soluble coloured components of a mixture
