Meta-analysis off 32 studies of strange situation different countries ( Japan, Britain, Sweden etc.) analysed to find any overall pattern
Results
secure or insecure attachent - similar across all countries used, more differences within the actually countries than than between them
Method
distribution of type of insecure attachment - western cultures was insecure avoidant, highest amount in Germany. Non western cultures insecure resistant, highest amount in Japan
Conclusion
there are cross cultural similarities in raising children, with common reaction to thee 'strange situations'
Evaluation
disadvantage - children are brought up in different ways in different cultures so may have different types of attachment. 'strange situations' may not have been a suitable method to use. better use different study which revealed different pattens.
