Multifunctional printers, touchscreens and force-feedback game controllers
  • Advantages of Multifunctional Devices
    1. Compact design
    2. Reduced operating costs
    3. Consolidated supplies and maintenance
    4. Greatly reduce the need of having numerous devices in a home or a office
  • Disadvantages of multifunctional devices
    1. A single problem can affect the whole device
    2. Lack of quality of performance
    3. May not offer all of the features of a singular functional device
  • Personal Computers (PC)

These are small and inexpensive computers for use by individual users.
  • Examples of Personal Computer (PC)

Microcomputer, desktop computer, laptop computer and tablets
  • Advantages of a Personal Computer (PC)
    1. Increase your productivity
    2. Connects you to the Internet
    3. Can store vast amounts of information and reduce waste
    4. Helps sort, organize and search through information
    5. Get a better understanding of data
    6. Keeps you connected
  • Disadvantages of a Personal Computer (PC)
    1. Carpal tunnel and eye strain
    2. Short attention span and too much multitasking
    3. Can limit learning dependency
    4. Too much sitting
    5. Potential loss of privacy
    6. Time sink and lots of distractions etc.
  • Mobile Devices

Smartphones and tablets are made with portability in mind to give people computer and internet access on the go.
  • Examples of Mobile Devices

Smartphones, Tablet, Laptop computers, Smart watches, E-readers and Handheld gaming consoles
  • Servers
Powerful computers that provide data to other computers connected to a network either on a local area network (LAN) or a wide area network (WAN).
  • Example of servers
Filer servers, Print servers and Database servers
  • Advantages of Servers
    1. Gives scalability
    2. Adds seamless connectivity
    3. Improves Collaboration
    4. Allows for faster expansion
    5. Allows centralized and automated backup systems
  • Disadvantages of Servers
    1. Increased costs
    2. Single point of failure
    3. Transition
    4. Quality of support
  • Entertainment systems

Devices which are used for a variety of purposes such as for watching TV/Films, listening to music and playing video games.
  • Examples of Entertainment Systems

Home theater system, Home theater PC, Video game consoles, In-car entertainment and In-flight entertainment
  • What are Digital Cameras

These capture images and videos digitally using an image sensor and store them as digital data on media such as memory card or a hard drive.
  • Examples of Digital Cameras
    • compact
    • bridge
    • DSLR
    • Mirrorless
    • DSLR's and Mirrorless models have interchangeable lenses
  • What are Navigation Systems
These devices use a GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) receiver to locate the user's position on a digital map and provide directions to a given destination.
  • Examples of Navigation Systems
    1. Celestial
    2. GPS
    3. Map and Compass
  • What are communication devices and systems

These devices can send and receive analogue or digital data to and from another device.
  • Examples of communication devices and systems

Smartphones, laptops, desktops, tablets, gaming consoles, smart TVs and watches or fitness trackers
  • Data capture and collection systems
These devices collect and input data through automated systems rather than direct data entry.
