Earth Procceses

Cards (12)

  • Liyhosphere: The lithosphere is the uppermost rocky layer of the Earth.
Tectonic Plate: Are the fragments of the lithosphere that move slowly, thanks to the planet´s internal energy.
Erosion: Is the process of the breakdown and removal of rock debris.
Relief: Are the series of irregularities or physical features of the Earth.

  • 1.      Is it correct if we say that the Earth is dinamic? What does it mean?
Yes, it is correct because it means that Earth is in constantly changes
  • Inner core: It´s a hot, dense ball, that contributes  into Earth´s magnetic field.
Outter core: It´s a mix of elements, it generates the Earth's magnetic field.
Mantle: A semi-solid magma layer, that is mosty solid bulk of Earth´s interior.
Crust: Is is the outermost shell of a terrestrial planet.

  • 1. Three types of external agents that change the Surface of the Earth
They are the atmospheric agent (wind, rain...), the hydrospheric agent (seas, rivers...) and the biological agent (animals, plants...).
  • 1.      Where do the internal and external energy come from?
The internal energy of Earth comes from de heat inside it when the Earth was formed and from it nuclear decay. The external one come from sources of energy that are outside the Earth, for example; solar energy, gravitational energy...
  • River source: Near the source, river flow fast due valleys are steep, and the bet is still narow, there water is mostly erosive.
Main river: Gentler and flows downhill more slowly, less erosion, rocks fragments transported from up so deposition begins and also valleys tend to become wider and rivers larger.
River mouth: The main process here is deposition, where water flows slowly and deposits most of the sediments it transports.
  • 1.      How would the Crust be affected be the movement of the lithosphere?
It would affect a lot the Crus be the movement of the lithosphere with volcanic eruptions, mondaints uplifting both happen along the edges of colliding plates, where lithosphere folds and fractures.

  • 1.      How were lakes and groundwater formed?
It is the water that passes trough pores of rock, and when they build up after soaking into the ground, the rocks become impermeable. While lakes are formed when water fills basins across the surface of the earth.
  • 1.      Which are the two different types of weathering?
They are the mechanical weathering (the plant roots break rocks) and the chemical weathering (the substances that  organisems produces that may react with rock components and weaken them).
  • 1.      The Surface of the moon is totally different from the Earth. Why?
It depends in so many things like:
-The athmosphere, the pressure are differents, in moon there isn´t as much “protection” as our athmosphere.
-The lack of external agents; in moon there isn´t (practically) any erosion, deposition....

  • 1.      Which is the origin of the Volcanoes and Earthquakes?
Both of them are consequences of tectonic plates, the first one is originated from the magma beneath the Earth, that it is asociated with tectonic plates, while Earthquakes are the release of stress and energy accumulated within the Earth's crust due to the movement of tectonic plates.
  • 1.      Which are the consequences if two tectonic plates collide?
If two tectonic plates collide, they might be some consequences as the mountain formation, earthquakes formation or some volcanic activity.
