  • Parietal Art - refers to artworks applied to an immovable rock surface.
  • Mobiliary Art - refers to portable artworks.
  • PETROGLYPHS Came from the Greek words petra, which means stone, and glyphein, which means to carve.
  • Petroglyphs - This refers to any image created on rock surfaces by means of carving, rubbing, scratching, cutting, engraving, fashioning, or other similar methods.

    2. Angono Petroglyph
  • Cupules - non-functional rock markings resembling the shape of a cup. It serves as a marker or map. They may also be sacred, ceremonial, linguistic, or symbolic markings.
  • Angono Petroglyph - were discovered in 1965 and were considered the oldest known artworks in the Philippines. These 50000-year-old rock carvings include more than 120 figures. 
  • PICTOGRAPH - Is an image or a symbol created to express an idea or a piece of information.

    1. Cave Painting
  • Cave Painting - an image created by applying color pigments on a cave wall, ceiling, or floor.
  • PREHISTORIC SCULPTURE - Were less common in the prehistoric society. Prehistoric society was mobile (nomadic); therefore, a sculpture was more prone to loss or damage.
  • SCULPTURE CREATIONS

  • Venus of Berekhat Ram - is the oldest known sculpture from the Paleolithic period. Found on the Golan Heights north of Israel, this humanoid sculpture was made of volcanic rock.
  • Venus of Willendorf - is the most popular Venus figurine  discovered in 1908. A statuette of a female figure in Austria. The statuette is 4.4 inches and was carved from a limestone and colored with red ocher. It suggests a strong connection to fertility as the breasts, belly, and vulva are exaggerated. 
  • Venus of Brassempouy - A sculpture of a lady with the hood. It is a fragmentary ivory figurine from the Upper Paleolithic era that realistically represents the human face and hairstyle.
  • MEGALITHIC ART (BIG ROCK) - Is a parietal art that involves the use of large stones as medium.

    4. Cromlech
  • Dolmen: large upright standing stones.
  • Menhirs: aligned upright and parallel standing stones.
  • Tumulus: mound of stones and earth raised over a grave.
  • Cromlech: monuments of stones arranged in a circle. Crom means bent or curved, while lech means slab flat stones.
