MUSCLE AND NERVOUS TISSUE

Cards (13)

  • This tissue consists of cells that contract in response to signals from nervous tissue.
    Muscle Tissue
  • This tissue receives and integrates information from inside and outside the body.
    Nervous Tissue
  • This tissue moves the body or its parts.
    Muscle Tissue
  • This tissue detects stimuli and relays signals.
    Nervous Tissue
  • What are the three basic types of muscle tissues?
    1. Skeletal Muscle
    2. Cardiac Muscle
    3. Smooth Muscle
  • This type of muscle tissue is attached to bones and moves the skeleton. It is called voluntary muscle because it is under conscious nervous control also called striated muscle because of its striped appearance.
    Skeleton Muscle
  • This type of muscle tissue is striated like skeletal muscle. The cells only contain a single nucleus. It is under control of the autonomic nervous system (unconscious control)>
    Cardiac Muscle
  • This type of muscle tissue lacks the striations of skeletal muscle. It is called involuntary muscle, under autonomic control and also known as visceral muscle because it is the muscle type that operates in the walls of hollow structures of the body such as intestine, uterus, stomach, urinary bladder, and also found in iris of eye, and in the base of hairs.
    Smooth Muscle
  • This tissue is composed primarily of nerve cells known as neurons. They are responsible for the conduction of nerve impulses.

    Nerve Tissue
  • The nerve cells consists of:
    1. Cell Body
    2. Dendrite
    3. Axon
  • This contains the nucleus.
    Cell Body
  • This is a number of short fibers extending from the cell body.
    Dendrite
  • It is a single long fiber responsible for carrying impulses away from the cell body.
    Axon
