A Christian belief that there is one God, but He has three different roles: The Father (Creator who is omnipotent), The Son (Jesus, who sacrificed Himself to save mankind from sin), The Holy Spirit (Helps people find belief in God)
The Trinity
The Father
The Son
The Holy Spirit
The Nicene Creed: Passage about the Trinity
The Father is God, the Son is not God, the Holy Spirit is God
Why is the Trinity important?
It is an example of mutual love and unity
It helps them understand the relationships in their lives and how to treat others
It is a reminder that they are never alone and that Christianity is like an extended family
How do Christians remember the Trinity?
Hymns that sing about the Trinity
They are baptised (like Jesus was) in the name of the 'Father, Son and Holy Spirit.'
Some Christians will make the sign of the cross using three points
Incarnation
To take on flesh. God takes on a human form to be more accessible to humanity.
Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came down to earth to live as a man
Christians do not really know or truly understand God
Jesus as a human is more relatable
Jesus as both God and Man
He was born
He grew up and aged
He was able to be killed
He was born to a virgin
He performed miracles
Heresurrected
Holy Trinity
Three in one
Why is the incarnation important to Christians?
It allows them to have a closer relationship with God
It demonstrates God's love for mankind (omnibenevolence) as He would send His only son to be killed for our sins
Jesus could understand humanities suffering in a human form and so Christians feel God truly understands when they are in pain
Salvation
Being saved from sin, and the consequences
Sin
An action that breaks God's law
Can be original sin (inherited from Adam and Eve) or personal sin (consequence of a person's actions)
Christians believe that those who die with unforgiven sin will not be able to enter heaven
Salvation is essential to have a relationship with God while on earth, to achieve a place in heaven
Christians believe that we were separated from God as we did not obey his law
Some Christians believe that people are not automatically sinful but that everyone will sin at one point or another
Some Christians believe they had the perfect relationship with God until Adam and Eve ate the apple in the Garden of Eden. Now humanity is automatically sinful and needs salvation
Jesus did not like people who thought they were great just because they followed the law
Role of Jesus in Salvation
When Jesus died on the cross, his death paid for human sins and gave people the chance of salvation. When people believe in Jesus they believe that they receive God's grace, which helps them to lead a good Christian life.
Salvation
Because of salvation Jesus has allowed us to have a relationship with God. We can ask for forgiveness and pray to God.
Views on how salvation is achieved
Catholics think salvation comes through the sacrament
Liberal Protestants think salvation comes from living the Christian life and following the teachings and example of Jesus
Evangelical Protestants think salvation comes through faith
We say sorry and thank you to God when we have done wrong
You can then be forgiven by God and have a good relationship with him
Why is atonement and salvation so important?
They believe Jesus' death allows humans to have eternal life
They have a moral duty to live as Jesus lived-loving and caring
They can have a loving and great relationship with God restored
They regularly repent of sins and believe they are forgiven
Last Days of Jesus
1. Jesus washed the feet of the disciples
2. Jesus took bread and wine and gave it to his disciples, telling them it was his body and blood

2. The governor offered to release Jesus, but the crowd chose to crucify him
3. When he died, he asked God to forgive those who killed him

1. Women visited Jesus' tomb finding it empty - two angels told them he had risen

Eschatology
Religious beliefs about death, judgement and lifeafterdeath
Christian beliefs about life after death are based on the resurrection of Jesus Christ
Christian beliefs about life after death
All Christians believe life is not all there is. They believe that God will reward the good and punish the bad in some form of life after death.
Some Christians believe that this judgement will happen when they die. Others believe that there will be a Day of Judgement at the endoftime, when everybody will be judged at the same time.
Heaven
A place of peace and reward where people go when they accept Jesus as their salvation and ask for forgiveness for their sins
Hell
A place of eternal fire symbolising pain and suffering, where people go when they reject God
Why do Christians believe in Life After Death?
Eternal life - Jesus promised that his followers would have eternal life
Immortality of the soul - Jesus told a criminal crucified with him that he would go straight to paradise
Jesus' life as an example - God sent Jesus to Earth in order that humans could overcome death and have eternal life
