Stewardship + Environment (Jews)

• Jews are taught that human beings must behave as responsible global citizens, acting as stewards of God’s creation.
• In Judaism, humans have been given responsibility over the earth and all its creatures.
• Genesis 1 says God gave humans dominion over nature - stewardship is a gift and duty from God.
• Belief that we must treat the environment with respect as earth‘s God’s possession and we‘re temporary caretakers.
• Belief that humans must live environmentally sustainable lives - caring for the environment is very important and ranks above other religious duties.
• Torah teaches Jews that humans were given dominion but doesn’t give the right to exploit and harm them.
