mitosis

Cards (10)

  • interphase

organelles double, cell grows and the DNA replicates
  • nuclear division
DNA is replicated so it is identical for growth and repair
  • cytokinesis
division of the cytoplasm in two
  • PMAT
    prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
  • what happens during prophase?

Chromosomes condense and become visible, the nuclear membrane breaks down, and the spindle fibres form. Centrioles move to opposite poles
  • what happen during metaphase?
chromosomes align along the equator and spindle fibres attach to either the chromatid or centromere
  • what happens during anaphase?
spindles retract and the centromere divides. Chromatids separate and move to opposite poles of the cell. (this requires ATP)
  • what happens during telophase?
chromosomes become longer and thinner so become chromatin, the spindles disintegrate and the nucleus reforms
  • what is cytokinesis?
cytoplasm splits in two to produce genetically identical daughter cells
  • state the equation for mitotic index

the number of cells undergoing mitosis/total number of cells
