structure of leaf and their functions

    Cards (5)

    • Epidermal tissues - covered in a waxy cuticle which helps to reduce water loss by evaporation
    • Upper epidermis - transparent so that light can pass through it to the palisade layer
    • Palisade layer - lots of chloroplasts, meaning that they're near the tp of the leaf where they can get the most light
    • Xylem and Phloem - form a network of vascular bundles, which deliver water and other nutrients to the entire leaf and take away the glucose produced by photosynthesis
    • tissues of leaf - adapted for efficient gas exchange
