Stewardship

• Jewish leaders teach that humans must behave as responsible global citizens
• Genesis 1 :

  • explains that God gave humans dominion over nature
  • humans must take care of the earth as we are only temporary caretakers of the earth , it’s Gods possession
• Stewardship is a gift and duty and humans must learn to live envirementally sustainably
• The Torah teaches that although humans have dominion over animals they still don’t have the right to exploit and harm them
• Caring for the environment is so important that it ranks above other religious duties
