god exists out of time and space so he is transcendant - he is above all
immanent - acting in human history throughout all ages
god is omnibenevolent - all loving
god shows his love through his love for the world by giving his one and only son
"for god so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" - John 3:16
"you shall have no other gods before me" - exodus 20 (10 commandments)
god is personal as he shows his relationship with humanity through prayer, visions and the presence of the holy spirit
god is omnipotent (all powerful) so he can do anything logically possible within his nature
god's perfect nature and omniscience ensure that he is a fair and righteous judge of humans
godly living is seen through the incarnation - god revealing himself to earth in the form of a man
the protestant church emphasise god as forgiving and loving
the holy trinity is the concept of three persons as one god
each of the persons is god as god is one
each person of the trinity is distinct
all persons of the trinity are equal - they have the perfect and complete relationships because they are god and have gods characteristics
each person in the trinity fulfils a different role: Father (of the universe) the creator of the world, Son (god in human form - jesus) - save humanity and Holy Spirit - guides, inspires and unites the believers with christ and places him in the body of christ, the church
unitarians do not believe in the trinity as it puts the idea of monotheism at danger and goes against the 2nd of the 10 commandments - "you shall not make idols", they believe that god is one and that god is omnipotent
"be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly father is perfect" - matthew 5:48
god the father and the holy spirit are unseen
god the father and holy spirit are unseen, unlike god the son who was on earth over 2000 years ago then returned to heaven
"the world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. but you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you" - john 14:17
"the word became flesh and lived among us" - john 1:14
"believe in one god, the father almighty, maker of heaven and earth" - nicene creed
the nicene creed is a statement of the christian faith and is used in christian worship
all christians agree that god caused the creation of the universe
at the start of genesis, god brings order to chaos - he brings all to existance over 6 days, starting with light itself and through the power of his word the earth takes its form and is filled with creation
everything in creation demonstrates gods power and purpose
"For everything created by God is good...for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer" - 1 timothy 4:4-5
"God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good!" - genesis 1:31
god has authority over creation -> "god called the dry land earth" - genesis 1:10
"the spirit of god was hovering over the waters" - genesis 1:2 -> same idea as a bird sitting over nest of eggs - the same idea as the spirit is preparing to bring life into the world and cares for it
"God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." - genesis 2:7
the word is present with god before the creation of the world and was with god at the creation - without the word, life would not exist as the word gave life to all things -> becomes flesh (jesus)
"So God created mankind in his own image" - genesis 1:27
"rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” - genesis 1:28 -> god gives humans authority to rule over earth
"be fruitful and multiply" - genesis 1:28
adam is placed in the garden of eden to take care of it and eve is created as his helper - they posess free will
god places one rule on adam and eve - the first law god gives to humanity and it carries punishmentr til this day
