  Chromosomes become visible in the nucleus after DNA replication

  Chromosomes shorten and appear as chromatids
• Step 3 of mitosis

  The nuclear membrane disappears, the chromosomes line up at the cells centre
• Step 4 of mitosis 


  The chromatids are pulled apart to opposite poles by spindle fibres.
• Step 5 of mitosis

  The nuclear membrane forms around each group of chromatids and the cytoplasm divides
