• blood vessels - channels that carry blood throughout the heart
• types:

  • arteries
  • veins
  • capillaries
• arteries - carry oxygenated blood away from the heart
• veins - carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart
• capillaries - smallest blood vessels, connects arteries and veins
• pulmonary circulation - the process where blood is pumped from the heart to the lungs and back.
• hepatic portal circulation - blood from the small intestine enters the liver through the hepatic portal vein
• coronary circulation - blood that goes to the heart muscle itself, not to the heart valves
• fetal circulation - the blood flow from the placenta to the fetus
