Lesson 1: Projectile Motion

Cards (10)

  • Projectile - Is the motion of an object thrown or projected into the air, subject to only the acceleration of gravity.
  • Trajectory - It is the path of the projectile, it is also the parabola or curve path of the projectile motion.
  • Projectile - It is also an object with an initial velocity, and which is then allowed to move under the action of gravity.
  • Range - Is the displacement or distance from point of release to point of landing.
  • Projectile Motion - It is in 2D Motion and its a combination of horizontal & vertical components of motion which are independent on each other
  • Horizontal Component - It is found on the x-axis, it is constant and not changing, there is no gravity acting on this motion.
  • Horizontal Component - The maximum range is obtained only at an angle of 45 degrees, complementary angles will result to the same range.
  • Vertical Component - It is found on the y-axis, this depends on the gravity of earth (9.8m/s^2), the velocity decreases as it goes up and increases as it goes down.
  • Vertical Component - It is the vertical distance or displacement which is called the height. The maximum height of the projectile is measured when the vertical velocity is zero.
  • Vertical Component - As the angle of release increases the height also increases.
