  • Life goals basically refer to an individual's aspirations, missions, ambitions, and dreams in
    various aspects of his life. Achieving life goals may start with goal-setting. Identifying one's
    goals in life is highly essential, as it may serve as one's guide or direction towards what a person
    wants to happen in his or her life. Goals help people use their lifetime wisely, and dreams give
    people pride when they achieve the targets that they have set. Goal setting therefore provides
    focus, helps people identify and evade distractions, and brings them back to the right track
    when they are lost.
  • The following are some helpful guidelines on setting goals in life:
    1. List down the primary goal you want to achieve in your life.
    2. Break it down into smaller goals
    3. Provide a time frame for each smaller goal. Identify other things that are necessary
    for attaining these goals.

    What are your dreams for pleasure? How do you want to enjoy life
    with your wanted occupation? Will your wished vocation enable you
    to have your wanted lifestyle?

    Do you want to serve other people? Do you want to do it through
    politics, religion, etc.? How will you achieve this?
  • Brainstorming is a useful tool in thinking about general goals. The process includes
    trimming down the identified general goals into smaller and more achievable goals that one can
    focus on. Specificity is effective in goal-setting. People who make specific goals tend to achieve
    more as they are able to set more challenging goals, progress more, and evaluate personal
    progress more effectively.
