  • Citizenship
    Membership of a citizen in a political society, which membership implies, reciprocally the duty of allegiance on the part of the member and a duty of protection on the part of the state
  • Citizens of the Philippines

    • Those who are citizens of the Philippines at the adoption of this Constitution
    • Those whose fathers or mothers are citizens of the Philippines
    • Those who are naturalized in accordance with law
  • Citizen
    A person having the title of citizenship, who enjoys full civil and political rights and is accorded protection inside and outside the country of the State
  • Alien or Foreigner
    A citizen of a country who is residing in or passing through another country, not given all the rights of citizenship, such as right to vote

    Membership in any type of political community, whether democratic or not

    One who owes allegiance to a state, and, therefore, is not regarded as an alien
  • Ways of acquiring citizenship

    • Involuntary method - by birth, because of blood relationship (jus sanguinis) or by birth (jus soli or jus loci)
    • Voluntary method - by naturalization
