  • Private funding?
This is where a person will pay for their legal advice and representation themselves. They usually seek advice from a solicitors firm. Some firms offer free initial legal advice- usually limited to 30 minutes.
  • Conditional fee agreements?
Client and lawyer/legal advisers make an agreement that the lawyer's payment is conditional on the case being successful. If successful the lawyer will take a success fee from their winning clients compensation. The success fee mustn't exceed 25% of the damages, excluding damages for future care and loss. A party will be advised to take ot 'after the event' insurance.
  • Name a few other advice agencies?
CItizens advise bureau, law centres, pro bono units, free representation units, trade unions, insurance companies and charities
  • Citizens advise bureau?
2000 highly trained volunteers with a wide range of roles. They're local, independent charities that provide free, confidential advice and info whoever you are and whatever the problem. They're managed and used by people within the community, they deliver services that meet their needs. They provide practical advice, negotiate on behalf of clients and even represent them formally such as at tribunal hearings. The bureaux give anonymous statistics and info to the citizens advise so they can identify things that cause people hardship and campaign for change.
  • No win- no fee arrangements?
Nothing is required to be paid upfront, with no financial risk if the claim loses. To do this they take out an insurance policy on your behalf so you are fully protected if your claim is unsuccessful. Because you only pay if you win your opponent will pay most of your legal costs anyway and any remaining cost is deducted from the compensation settlement
