Bal Tashchit

• The Torah does say much about the environment
• Passage in Deuteronomy says “When you lay siege to a city… do not destroy its trees by putting an axe to them”

  Deuteronomy 20:19
• This teaching is known as Bal Tashchit
• Jewish people see it as an instruction to use the worlds resources wisely and to not exploit or waste them
