Natural Resources

Cards (28)

  • Natural Resources

Materials found on the Earth that are used to meet peoples needs and to support life
  • Types of Natural Resources

    • Water Resources
    • Wind Power
    • Forrest Resources
    • Solar Power
    • Animal Resources
    • Crude Oil
    • Precious Metal, Minerals and Rocks
    • Natural Gas
    • Land Resources
  • Man-Made Resources
Objects or things that are converted into accessible forms after changing their original form
  • Examples of Man-Made Resources
    • Renewable
    • Non-Renewable
  • Renewable Resources

    Resources that naturally replenish themselves
  • Renewable Resources Examples

    • Animals
    • Plant
    • Water
    • Air
  • Renewable Energy Sources Examples

    • Solar Energy
    • Wind Energy
    • Hydro Energy
    • Geothermal Energy
  • In 1839, at the age of 19, Edmond Becquerel observe and discovered the Photovoltaic effect – a process that produced a voltage or electricity current when expose to light or radiant energy
  • The largest onshore wind farm in the Philippines is the Burgos Wind Farm in Ilocos Norte, which has a capacity of 150 MW
  • In hydropower they have built-in ladders for fish, The ladders vary depending on the major species in the waterway, and its effectiveness relies on the fish's ability to swim fast and efficiently
  • The Philippines is the third largest producer of geothermal electricity after the United States of America and Mexico. Geothermal exploration was started in 1962, and the first large commercial power plants came on-line in 1979 in two fields
  • Non-renewable Resources

Resources that do not naturally replenish and their supply is limited
  • Non-Renewable Resources Examples
    • Soil
    • Minerals & Rocks
    • Fossils Fuel
    • Natural Gas
    • Petroleum
    • Coal
    • Copper and Metals
  • Unsustainable use of natural resources depletes material and can cause problems like pollution and destruction of ecosystems
  • The 5 R's for sustainable resource use
    • Refuse
    • Reduce
    • Reuse
    • Recycle
    • Recover
  • Depletion: Consuming the resources faster than they can be naturally fill up, can be a risk of running out. this could mean a shortage of water, loss of fertile soil and exhaustion of minerals
  • Biodiversity Loss: Disrupting natural habitats like forest and ocean and overusing resources can lead to the decline of plant and animal species. This can upset the delicate balance of ecosystem
  • Climate Change: Burning fossils fuels excessively contributes to the greenhouse effect, leading to global warming and climate change, this leads to extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and disruptions to ecosystems
  • Pollution: Improper disposal of waste and pollants harms air, water and soil quality. This pollution negatively impacts both the enviroment and human health
  • Recover
Convert waste into energy resources. Organic matter such as animal or food waste are broken down by microoganism (anaerobic digestion) to produce biogas and biofertilizer
  • Save Energy
Conserve energy by turning of the lights and other appliances when not in use
  • Renewable Energy Resource

Using wind, solar power, and other renewable energy resource instead of burning fossil fuel
  • Refuse
Say No to single-use plastic such as straws. Whaever you order a drink, make it a habit to politely say "No straw please"
  • Reduce
Reduce the amount of general waste you create. instead of buying bottled water. used reusable water container or bottle
  • Reuse
Practice using something again. You can remove gift wrappers carefully so that you can use it again. Dont thow your old books, they can be used by other people
  • Recycle
Turn materials in the same or different form that would otherwise be discarded as waste. For example. you old notebook can be recycle for your paper mache projects
  • The following practice promotes sustainable use of natural resources
