Eukaryotic Cell Cycle

Cards (3)

  • Cell cycle
A process in which cells divide to produce two genetically identical daughter cells for growth, repair and asexual reproduction
  • Mitosis does not give rise to genetic variation as all the cells produced are genetically identical
  • Stages of the cell cycle
    1. Mitosis: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
    2. Cytokinesis: cytoplasm divides, producing two daughter cells
    3. Interphase: G1 - cell grows & DNA replicates, S - chromosomes replicate and condense to form chromatin, G2 - cell prepares to divide and replicates organelles for a full set in each new
