The structure of the earth

• THe internal structure of the earth contains liquids, gases, rocks and soil
• The earth is 4,6 billion years old, it began as a ball of molten rock
• The core is made up of iron and nickel
• Mantle is made up of silicate minerals
• Crust is the outer layer of the Earth
• Mantle is made up of magma and solid rock
• Crust is made up of solid rock
• Continental crust is thicker than oceanic crust
• Volcanoes erupt because magma rises from below the surface

• As it cooled, it formed a hard outer layer, under this layer stayed a liquid, which we call molten material magma

• The crust is 6-90 km thick
• The crust is thicker under the continents and thinner under the oceans
• The mantle is found under the crust, it's the layer of the earth that is made up of the most rock and soil
• The mantle is about 2900 km thick
• The mantle is partially in a molten state (liquid state)
• The boundary between the crust and the mantle is known as the Mohorovicic discontinuity (moho)
• The core is the central layer of the earth, which is divided into two, the outer core and inner core
