Chemical Reaction

Cards (8)

  • Chemical equation is chemist's shorthand for chemical reaction.
  • Reactants are the start of the reaction and are written on the left side of the reaction arrow.
  • Products are the end of the reaction and are written on the right side of the reaction arrow.
  • Reaction arrow tells which direction the chemical reaction proceeds.
  • Catalyst is a substance that speeds up a chemical reaction but not consumed by reaction.
Inhibitor slows downs or inhibits the chemical reaction.
  • Coefficients are used in front of the chemical formula to help balance the numbers of atoms.
  • Subscripts follow the element symbol in chemical formula, indicating how many atoms of the element are in a compound.
  • Chemical reactions occur when chemical bonds between atoms are formed or broken.
