The UK’s economy has rapidly changed since the industrial revolution. Before this we worked mainly in the primary sector in agriculture. There was a large scale move to manufacturing (secondary) into the 80s but in recent time we have move to the majority working in the tertiary sector.
Changing economy
Pre-Industrial – Most people work in mining and agriculture (1800 75% work in primary sector)
Industrial – Industrial Revolution (1900 55% work in secondary sector) mainly in manufacturing. Mechanisation and production abroad slows this pattern
Changing Economy
Post-Industrial – by 2006 74% of those in the UK work in the tertiary sector. The development of services, finance, research and development create this change
