  A triogram was presented on screen and ppts were given a 3 digit number to count back from for a differing period of time until they were told to stop and then asked to recall the triogram. They found that STM has a short duration of 18-30 seconds.

  392 American participants aged 17-74 were tested on their memory of old classmates through recognition of pictures, matching names to pictures and free recall of names. Those tested within 15 years of graduating had a 90% recall accuracy in photo recognition and 60% in free recall. Those tested after 48 years had 70% recall accuracy in photo recognition and 30% in free recall. This shows that LTM can last a long time.
