Pacifism - Catholic

• Belief that all war and violent acts are wrong - reject all violence = pacifists
• Conflict doesn’t need to be dealt with resorting to war, instead there are other peaceful methods, like negotiation.
• Jesus’ commandments in the Gospel of Matthew: ”Blessed are the peacemakers” - “ Turn the other cheek.“
• Jesus is an example for pacifists as he didn’t fight back when he was arrested by the guards, instead he command the disciples follow.
• Ten Commandments justify pacifism - In Exodus, go says “Do not kill”
• Christian denominators teach their members how that pacifism is the only acceptable response to violence.
• Quakers are an example of a Christian group who are pacifists and they believe that all people are created as equal and being respectful to each other - should be inspired by God’s love he has given and look to New Testament for guidance.
• Believe life is precious so they try to show ways to work to bring peace - work for peace, attempting to bring together communities in areas of conflict.
• They become conscientious objectors and believe in negotiation and reconciliation.
• All people are created by God as equals and should show their equality by respecting each other.
• Each person has something of God within them and their actions should be motivated by God given love.
