Sound waves
are
longitudinal
waves that travel through solids, liquids, or gases.
The
speed of sound
is determined by the medium it
travels
through.
When an object
vibrates
, it creates alternating areas of high pressure and
low
pressure in the surrounding medium.
There are three main causes of sound,
source
, medium and
receiver
The
source
could be music, a video or a person talking.
The medium is gas,
liquid
and
solids
The receiver could be a
human
or an
animal
The loudness of a sound is dependent on the
amplitude
The loudness of the sound is measured in
decibels
The pitch
of sound is dependent on its
frequency
If the frequency is higher, then the pitch is
higher
There are
3
categories of sound waves
The three categories are
audible
sound waves,
infrasonic
sound waves and ultrasonic sound waves.
