  • The Sherman antitrust act (1890) prohibited monopolies and restraint on trade
  • repeal of tenure of office act 1968 allowed the removal governement officals from previous appointments
  • cleveland stated that he would not remove anyone in the governement due to their political standing - this was upheld
  • cleveland vetoed 100s of american pension bills incuding;

    penisons for american civil war vets - as he believed if they had already been denied by the pension bureau, this should be upheld disability pension bill - (not due to millitary action)
  • texas seed bill 1887 

    this was vetoed by cleveland, however this was overriden by congress as the drought had effected most of the texan crops (the bill appropriated $10,000 for seeds)
  • cleveland mediated conflict between germany and somoa after;

    germany had tried to impliment a puppet monachy in somoa - US combatted this with 3 warships - this led to a treaty between somoa and US which allowed for a naval base on the island.
  • in 1884, cleveland's wife died giving birth to their son - this left him devastated and depressed.
