need to check the brake mechanism - when you pull/push the lever, a bar should push against the tire to stop the chair moving - patient should know how to use it
tires must be pumped up/solid - if flat itll be hard to move and the brake mechanism wont work
the rim shouldnt have metal sticking out of it as it could cut pts

the foot plate must be firm via the locking mechanism and should be parallel to the ground, but not too low that theyre at risk of hitting anything in the ground, so adjust the height also in accordance to height of pts
the arm plates must be locked in (curved part at the front)
the material of the seat and back must be in tact, if theres any tears do not use it

pull off little lever at the front of arm rest - completely removes arm rest, do on both sides
lift the footrests up, undo clip on side to remove locking mechanism - swing foot support to side or completely remove it by lifting off the legs
always worth clipping the belt together
pull levers on the back to fold the back support in half
then lift the seat up to fold it in half

put it back together by pushing the seat down
then unfold the back support and slide it down to lock it
clip footplates back on (lock them in) , swing them forwards and unfold footrests
curved part of arm rest is at the front - fit arm rest into rings at the front of the seat and clip it in
rim shouldn't have any nicks in it
tires should be inflated
handles need to be high enough for carer
push brake lever forwards to lock it - MUST BE ON WHEN GETTING PATIENT ON/OFF WHEELCHAIR
