    Moltke's strategy was to use railways in order to mobilise quickly to gain the advantage to win

    Offensive tactics were favoured to fit the strategy. More men in the wars and they last less. The Prussians early advantage with mobilisation in the FPW can be argued to have affected the outcome

    The heart of Germany's strategy was the use of railways by integrating them and telegraphs into their war plans. By 1850-70 Prussia's rail track trebled giving them a big lead over enemies. Moltke organised rail mobilisation exercises and integrated state and private railways into Prussian military strategy.

    They could mobilise more men at a faster pace with the railways which was a crucial reason behind her swift and decisive victories and early advantages in the wars against Austria (1866) and France (1870/71).

    1866 Austro-Prussian war where Prussia used 5 railway lines to mobilise 250,000 men in the first few days

    1870 Moltke separates men into 3 units which came together to surround Napoleon III at Sedan which led to the surrender of 104,000 French troops
