sin separates a person from God meaning they can't have a relationship with him
without salvation, a persons sins prevents them from entering heaven
salvation was Jesus' purpose on earth
Three ways Catholics receive grace:
-living a good Catholic life
-receiving scaraments of Baptism & Confirmation
-receiving the Eucharist in mass
Johns Gospel: For God so loved the world, he gave his only son
Belief in the church as the body of Christ is important:
Members of the Church carry out many different tasks which all help to achieve the common aim of continuing Jesus' work on Earth. This means Jesus remains on Earth today, through the Body of Christ
The Church as the body of Christ unites Catholics on a local and global scale. Helps them to understand different practices, teachings and beliefs and to create the best solution to challenges
The Church is not one body of Christ because Christians disagree about certain practices and beliefs.
For example, Protestants & Orthodox dont believe in the authority of the Pope
Protestants believe in the authority of bishops together
Orthodox use bible as sole source of authority
Catholics accept Pope as head of Church
Orthodox & Catholics believe Jesus is present in communion
Protestant believe Jesus is not present in communion, its just symbolic
Protestant believe salvation comes from belief in Christ
Catholic & Orthodox believe in sacramental grace
Mary is a model of discipleship because she is called the "first disciple" due to her complete faith in Jesus since his conception
Mary is a model of faith & charity because she showed love to Jesus throughout his whole life. She withstood Jesus' crucifixion for the rest of the worlds salvation
