  • Intercoastal muscles are the muscles between ribs controlling movement causing inhalation and exhalation
  • Diaphragm is a sheet of connective tissue between thorax that helps change volume of the thorax to allow inhalation and exhalation
  • Trachea is the windpipe connecting mouth and nose to lungs and is lined with goblet cells and ciliated with epithelial cells
  • Bronchi are the large tubes branching off trachea, one bronchus for each lung and lined with goblet cells and ciliated with epithelial cells
  • Bronchioles are where bronchi split to form smaller tubes which are connected to alveoli
  • Alveoli are tiny moist air sacs where gas exchange occurs and each alveolus is covered in capillaries
