  • One nation conservatives
    broadly accepted the changes post ww2 that labour brought in by Atlee. Bridges the gap between the upper class and working class . Pragmatic approach in the era of consensus
  • Thatcherite - new right
    moved away from one nation conservatism, reduced state intervention, restoring 'order' to society through putting unions in their place and her left wing groups. Privatised a lot of industries other than the NHS. Tax cuts on the rich (income tax was reduced from 83% to 40%) , tough and strong approach to law and order as well as foreign policy. 'iron lady' - Euroscepticism and anti-communism towards the USSR
  • David Cameron
    Respectful of Thatcher but understood the party had to move away from her image. A 'liberal conservative' more social reforms and focus on the environment. However, despite his commitment to 'one nation conservatism' he committed himself to austerity. Mostly a move away from Thatcherism
  • Truss
    A return to Thatcherism, there for 45 days. Mini-budget failed in the context of the cost of living crisis. Abolished the top rate of income tax, cutting corporation tax and cutting stamp duty. Replaced Kwarteng with Jeremy Hunt but it was too late
  • Sunak
    refusing to calm strikes with giving them a real pay rise, pledging to recruit 20,000 new police officers, tough on crime, asylum seekers to Rwanda as well as Stop the Boats
