Ultimately, through the wicked tale of privilege and pursuit , he dies at the hands of his greatest dishonourable desire before ever being able to reach his american dream .

    Nick suggests that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and that we only view things as beautiful because society says so.
  • Analysis 2
    This is striking because it can be true when characterizing Daisy. Daisy is "grotesque" and lethal for gatsby in the same way as the rose, yet in his eyes she is the epitome of beauty and is something he percieves as perfect.
  • Evaluation
    Gatsby willingly takes the blame for daisys carelessness which ultimately leads to his death, yet Daisy doesn't care enough to return the favour, she doesn't even send a "message or a flower" to his funeral.

    Evidently, each of us give what we see meaning. George Wilson views they eyes of tj eckleberg as the eyes of god while others just view them as an oculist advertisement. Likewise, Gatsby is in love with the "disembodied face" of Daisy from 5 years ago, and learns too late that she was never worthy his love.
