  • Christian beliefs about the Trinity
    • Christians believe that there is only One God, but that God is revealed in three distinct ways
    • Three Persons – this is called the Trinity, or Godhead
    • Idea of the Trinity is a mystery and Christians accept it's difficult to explain in words; any attempt to compare the Trinity with something humans can fully understand will have limited success

    • God the Father - loving creator and sustainer of the universe
    • God the Son – saviour who became incarnate (human), lived, was crucified, and then resurrected, namely Jesus Christ
    • God the Holy Spiritsource of strength which Christians find at work in their hearts
  • 2 reasons the Trinity is important
    • It is God, and the religion is based on that concept. Symbols, such as the shamrock demonstrate the concept in an easy way
    • It helps Christians gain some understanding of God, who really is beyond the understanding of humans and it makes best sense of what is written in the Bible
  • 2 ways in which belief in the Trinity influences Christians
    • Believing in the Trinity influences the lives of Christians as it provides a way to visualise God in the mind when actually God is a really hard concept to describe
    • The act of God sending His son – showing this ultimate act of love encourages Christians to try to always show love to others even when it may put them at a disadvantage
  • Nicene Creed: 'We believe in one God...We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ...We believe in the Holy Spirit'
  • Christians make the sign of the cross which represents the Father, Son, Holy Spirit. They believe that the One God is a Trinity of these Three Persons.
