Crucifixion

• Jesus' last words were, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit". This shows that if Jesus trusted God to look after Him when he died, then Christians can too
• Christians understand that Jesus was crucified to atone for the sins of humanity. He died on the cross for our sins. This belief means that Christians can be confident that their sins are taken care of and that one day they, too, will be with Jesus in heaven
• Jesus was flogged (beaten) and crucified at the site of Golgotha on the day that Christians known as Good Friday
• Jesus was forced to carry a cross to Golgotha, where he was crucified
• "Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?"


  "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
• The crucifixion is a culmination of series of events: his entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, the betrayal of Judas and the two trials
• Some Christians believe that Jesus suffered so much pain during the crucifixion that it would be impossible for him to suffer any more punishment from God. They think this means that Jesus’ death paid for all human sin and that no further sacrifice is needed
