  • What do all the girls wear?

    Full length woollen dress that is buttoned up (fine or rough depending on status), white (clean or dirty) (cotton or linen) coif, white cotton collar, woollen shawl.
  • What do higher status women like Mrs. Putnam wear?

    Full length dress made of fine wool, a linen white coif and cuffs , some lace detailing, tidy appearance
  • What do lower status women like Tituba and Mary Warren wear?

    Dirty turban (for Tituba) or dirty cotton coif, rough woollen shawl, ripped dirty cotton apron, full length dress made of rough wool, bare feet (for Tituba)
    Face and hands would be dirty, dress would have rips that are mended, flat and black leather shoes, untidy appearance
  • What would Elizabeth Proctor be wearing?

    White cotton coif, stained cotton apron form cooking and cleaning, full length woollen dress not fitted, white cotton cuffs with a little lace, white cotton collar, flat and black leather shoes.
    In act 2 she could be holding a wooden ladle as a prop.
    Her costume will show that she is of a higher status than the servants but lower than Mrs. Putnam.
  • What would John Proctor and Giles Corey be wearing?

    They are both farmers and of lower status. Unshaven, shoulder-length hair, dirty brown felt hat, cotton shirt with sleeves rolled up, brown jacket made of rough wool, knee-length rough woollen breeches, knee-length black leather boots covered in mud, weather beaten face, shabby
    Props would be a bucket or shovel (depends on the scene)
  • What would high status men like Reverend Parris, Hale and Mr. Putnam be wearing?

    Black felt hat with high crown, white linen shirt and collar, plain black fine woollen frock coat, fine woollen knee-high breeches unlike characters like John Proctor, fine woollen stockings, leather black shoes with small silver buckle, age lines, neat
    Lack of colour would show the character's personality or status level compared to Danforth
  • What would Danforth be wearing?

    Judge's wig (act 3 court room), black felt hat with high crown and gold buckle, clean white linen shirt, legal jabot, black velvet frock coat with silver detailing and buttons, large white linen cuffs, black knee-length moleskin breeches, grey fine woollen stockings, black leather boots with silver buckle.
    His costume would reflect his high position of authority and respect. It also reflects that he thinks he is the best judge and takes his job seriously.
  • How would Abigail dress?

    A tight and figure-hugging full length woollen dress (except in court room), blush and red lips, cotton white collar and cuffs, black woollen shawl, strands of hair falling out of white coif, black leather shoes. Neat. No jewellery.
    She is not trying to be provocative in court.
  • What would Elizabeth and John be wearing in the jail cell?

    Filthy cotton shirt/ dress with holes and rips. They would've lost weight, metal cuffs with chains hanging on their wrists, unshaven, dark circles, dirty rough woollen breeches, wild hair overall dirty and untidy appearance, pale from the cold
