Energy Transfers - Bungee Jump

• As the jumper falls, energy is transferred from the GPE Store to the Kinetic Energy Store.
• At the start of the jump, all of the energy in the system of is the store of GPE.
• When the bungee rope just starts to tighten, the KE Store is now at its max.
• During the ascent, energy transfers.. from the KE Store back to one. GPE Store
• Finally, at the top of the ascent, all of the energy is now back to the GPE Store

  • The jumper never returns back to the original position.
  • This is because energy is dissipated as thermal energy
  • Friction with air particles.
  • Stretching effects in the rope which is not fully elastic
